14th Annual Oktoberfest and Disc Golf’s HOTT Final This Weekend in Red Rock, Texas

While many of disc golf’s top pros are in South Carolina this weekend for the USDGC, there are a number of other events taking place throughout the country, including the 14th Annual Oktoberfest and the HOTT Final that will be held this weekend in Red Rock, Texas. This PDGA sanctioned B-tier event has 94 disc golfers registered to compete with many outstanding players arriving from throughout the Lone Star State.

The 2012 Heart of Texas Tour Final Championships will be held at Moody’s Disc Golf Country Club in Red Rock, about 40 miles east of Austin and just south of Bastrop, Texas. Dave Moody’s course transformed a family ranch into a disc golf mecca with the power to attract players from across the nation, and even the furthest corners of the planet.

This is always a fun event for all with a Players’ Party on Saturday night starting at 6:30 p.m. featuring music from  The Shady Rest, free beer thanks to Independence Brewing, and even a pumpkin carving contest with pumpkins judged during the Player’s party that night.

The tournament will kick off on Saturday, October 6 with a tee-off at 9 a.m. and end with the Final 9 on Sunday with tee-off at 2 p.m. Awards ceremony and a raffle will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Just a few of the players who will be competing in the Men’s Open division include Kevin Bates of Heath, Texas; the Defending Champion, Matt Hall of Ace, Texas and Bradley Williams of Austin, Texas. Williams has captured a number of victories this year including the Victoria Open, Red Rock Show and the Fly Ink Open in addition to an impressive fifth place finish at the Vibram Open.

The course here is said to require lots of hiking and is set in a very scenic location on rolling hills with large trees and several ponds. Some of the widest variety of shots can be found here, including lots of elevation change, water hazards, wide open shots, and super long shots to name just a few.

With ideal fall temperatures in the 60s and 70s in Red Rock this weekend this should make for a fun and exciting event for all who attend.
