Some of the world’s top female disc golf pros have been in Laingsburg, Michigan competing in the Disc Girls Gone Wild. This PDGA sanctioned A and B-tier event was held over two days, June 9-10, at the Sleepy Hollow State Park Disc Golf Course. With 70 disc golfers coming out to compete it was the 2011 Female Disc Golf World Champion, Paige Pierce of Plano, Texas who emerged the winner in the open division with a final score of 7-under par.

Pierce had an impressive second place finish at the very tough Glass Blown Open that was held in Kansas this April among unprecedented winds and even tornado warnings. She’s also had several victories this year, including both the Dynamic Discs Winter Warm Up and the Towne Lake Pro/Am.

Following in a tie for second place was three-time Women’s World Champion Valarie Jenkins from Capitola, California and Sue Stephens from Dorr, Michigan, both scoring 5-under par. The 2011 PDGA Female Rookie of the Year, Catrina Allen of Phoenix, Arizona captured fourth place with a final score of 1-under par and Erin Oakley of Lansing, Michigan scored at even par to finish in fifth place.

Jayne Snider, also of Lansing, took sixth place scoring 2-over par while Liz Carr of Muskegon, Michigan had a final score of 8-over par, finishing in seventh place.

Jennifer Sawyer of Kalamazoo, Michigan won the advanced division in overtime after both she and Emma Fojtik of Vicksburg, Michigan finished in a tie for first place, both scoring 24-over par.

The advanced masters division win went to Judy Thompson of Euclid, Ohio, beating out Michele Ramon of Lansing in overtime. Sherry Schmits of Lansing won the advanced grandmasters division while Abby Calhoun of Ypsilanti, Michigan captured the win in the intermediate division.  Lauren Curtis got the victory in the recreational division, while other winners included Chantel McGill, Amira Rinker and Lauren Oakley.

Congratulations to all the winners and competitors on a great weekend of disc golf as well as helping to spread the word of this outstanding sport to more women!
