Michael Johansen Crowned Champion at the Raleigh Disc Golf Championship

Last week at the 2012 Disc Golf World Championships, Michael Johansen had the lead for quite some time, but ultimately came out in fourth place. This weekend, at the Midtown Chiropractic Raleigh Disc Golf Championship in Raleigh, North Carolina, he was able to come out with the win.

With 138 disc golfers coming out to compete in this PDGA sanctioned A-tier event, Johansen took home $1,000 in cash after scoring 39-under par. In addition to this victory and his outstanding performance in Charlotte, Johansen has a number of other wins this year including the Savannah Open, the Randolph Park Open and the Azalea Disc Golf Tournament. Following him in second place, was Dave Feldberg of Portland, Oregon at just a throw behind, scoring 38-under par and Cameron Todd at third place with a final score of 35-under par. Barry Schultz of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Terry Gallops of Raleigh followed in a tie for fourth place, both scoring 34-under par.

Catrina Allen of Phoenix, Arizona captured the win for the women with a final score of 21-under par, while Elaine King of Durham, North Carolina came in at second place scoring 14-under par. The Masters division went to Matt Peckham of Rock Hill, South Carolina with a final score of 26-under par while Phillip Bartholomew was the winner of the Advanced division scoring 26-under par. Holly Finley of Cambridge, Wisconsin won the Advanced division for the women with a final score of 29-over par.

In the Advanced Masters division, Kingsley Flett, all the way from Fremantle, Australia won in overtime after both he and local Ken Slusser scored 5-over par. Scoring 1-under par to win the Advanced Grandmasters division was Clay Harless of Raleigh, while Todd Gingerich of Whisper Pines, North Carolina won the Intermediate division scoring 14-under par and Adam Reeves of Raleigh won the recreational division.
