Anthony Daman Crowned Champion at Gonzo Liberty Battle in Gonzales, Texas

The Gonzo Liberty Battle took place at the Gonzales Disc Golf Course in Gonzales, Texas over the weekend of April 28-29, 2012. The advanced and recreational divisions competing on Saturday, while the pro and intermediate divisions competed on Sunday. Between the two, there were 113 disc golfers who came out to take part in this PDGA sanctioned C-tier event, and it was Anthony Daman of Austin, Texas who was crowned champion with a final score of 20-under par after shooting a 50 in both round one and round two.

Daman was the winner of the Battle of Slaughter Creek last year. He was followed at second place by Brandon Elder scoring 16-under par, and capturing third place at just a stroke behind was Adam Hernandez with a final score of 15-under par. Daniel Temple of Austin followed at fourth place scoring 14-under par and it was Casey Wright who came in at fifth place with a final score of 13-under par. Wright has had several victories already this year, including the College Station Open and the Disc Til Dawn Open.

Stephanie Vincent of Austin captured the win for the women in the open division with a final score of 9-over par while Melissa Stein of Austin followed in second place scoring 21-over par and  Wendy Shepperd of Austin came in at third place with a final score of 22-over par.

The grandmasters division win went to Jerry Perez, Sr. of Austin scoring 8-under par while Jeff Cooper of Round Rock, Texas followed in second place with a final score of 4-under par. Kyle Jones of Austin captured the victory in the intermediate division scoring 1-under par, and was followed by Mike Owen, Douglas Branch and Edward Garcia in a three-way tie at second place, all scoring 4-over par. Kinsey Lemke of Corpus Christi, Texas won the intermediate division for the women with a final score of 35-over par.

Rick Muniz of Georgetown, Texas was the winner of the advanced division scoring 6-under par, with Devin Graham and Tony Bender following in a tie at second place, both with a final score of 4-under par. The advanced grandmasters win went to John Castruita of Austin scoring 6-over par and Matt Gongora won the recreational division with a final score of 11-over par.
