Brad Ramsey Wins Disc Golf’s 2012 Charlotte Amateur Championships

The 2012 Charlotte Amateur Championships took place in Charlotte, N.C. over the weekend of April 28-29 at four area courses, the Elon, Idlewild, Kilborne and Winget Disc Golf Courses. This PDGA sanctioned A-tier event was presented by Dynamic Discs and saw 238 disc golfers come out to compete. It was Brad Ramsey  of Charlotte  who was crowned champion in the advanced division with a final score of 26-under par.

Ramsey had a recent second place finish at the Azalea Disc Golf Tournament, and in 2011, he won the Charlotte Amateur Championship in June and the Beaver Jam in August. Following Ramsey in a tie for second place was Walter Murray of Hickory, N.C. and Bryan Hoffman of Charlotte, both scoring 22-under par.

Capturing fourth place at just a stroke behind was Michael Martinez of Leesville, S.C., with a final score of 21-under par and Mark Huether of Cornelius, N.C. took fifth place scoring 20-under par. Andy Wiler of Charlotte followed in sixth place with a final score of 18-under par while Tucker Williams and Weston Isaacs finished in a tie for seventh place, both scoring 16-under par. In another tie at ninth place, was Robert McAlpine and Paul Priest, both with a final score of 14-under par.

Debbie Scott of Charlotte won the advanced division for the women with a final score of 6-over par. She’s had several wins already this year, including the Azalea Disc Golf Tournament and the Savannah Open. She was followed by Heather Damron of Ashville, N.C. at second place scoring 22-over par and Babette Martin of Charlotte in third place with a final score of 28-over par.

The advanced masters division win went to Craig Wesnofske of Charlotte with a final score of 13-under par and it was Rick Miller of Indian Land, S.C. scoring 7-under par who followed in second place. Dave Wert of Blacksburg, Virg. captured the victory in the advanced grandmasters division with a final score of 10-under par.

Robert Galimi of Stallings, N.C. was the winner of the intermediate division scoring 9-under par while Tammy Gegoski of Charlotte won the division for the women with a final score of 40-over par.

Finally, Parker Martin took the victory in the recreational division scoring 2-under par and Jonathon Pfeiffer won the under 16 boys division with a final score of 22-over par while Alex Lambert won the under 13 girls division.
