Ricky Wysocki led the Vibram Open throughout most of the event, but it was Cale Leiviska from Saint Paul, Minnesota who came through in the end to capture the victory in this prestigious PDGA sanctioned A-tier tournament with a final score of 25-under par. There had never been a repeat MPO winner in the MSDGC/Vibram Open series, and Leiviska was crowned champion in the 2007 MSDGC.
Tournament director Steve Dodge had reportedly picked Cale as one of the dark horses to win this year, and it turned out he was right on the money. Leiviska has had several other big victories this year, including the Beaver State Fling and the Texas State Disc Golf Championships.
It was a tight race throughout, and Wysocki ended up at just two throws behind Leiviska, scoring 23-under par, while the current World Champion, Paul McBeth, came in at third place with a final score of 22-under par. Steve Brinster of Warwick, New York captured fourth place scoring 17-under par, while Bradley Williams and JohnE McCray tied for fifth place, both with a final score of 16-under par.
Over in the Women’s Open division, it was the 2011 Female Rookie of the Year, Catrina Allen, who came back to win with a final score of 22-over par, just a throw ahead of the current Women’s World Champion Sarah Hokom and three-time Women’s World Champion Valarie Jenkins who tied for second. Paige Pierce wasn’t far behind, scoring 26-under par.
After their victory, Cale and Catrina celebrated by jumping into the water at the Maple Hill Course Hole #1.
Congratulations to all of the winners and competitors on an amazing competition.
