The United States Women’s Disc Golf Championships took place this past weekend of September 22-23, 2012 in Huntsville and Hartselle, Alabama. With many of the top women in disc golf competing in this PDGA major event, it turned out to be a tight battle in the Open division between the 2011 PDGA Rookie of the Year, Catrina Allen, and the 2011 Women’s World Champion, Paige Pierce.
In the end it was Allen who captured the victory in overtime after both she and Pierce ended with a final score of 14-under par. Allen has been on fire all year, placing third at the PDGA World Championships in July and winning a number of prestigious events including the Dynamic Discs’ Glass Blown Open, the Beaver State Fling and the Vibram Open.
Following in second place, Paige Pierce was the winner at the Stockholm Open this year, all the way in Sweden. The current Women’s World Champion, Sarah Hokom, followed in third place scoring 10-under par, while four-time Women’s World Champion Elaine King came in at fourth place
with a final score of 6-under par and three-time Women’s World Champion Valarie Jenkins followed at fifth place at just a throw behind scoring 5-under par.
