Emma Rose Hanley Crowned Champion at Disc Golf’s 2012 Chick Flick in Oregon

Emma Rose Hanley of Forest Grove, Oregon was crowned champion in this past weekend’s PDGA sanctioned C-tier tournament that was all for the girls, The Chick Flick. Held in North Plains, Oregon, just west of the city of Portland, The Chick Flick took place at Horning’s Hideout with 102 female disc golfers coming out to compete.

This was a perfect event for women to practice their skills and learn a little from experienced local women, and a few men, about drives, approach shots, putting and trick shots in a casual and fun environment.

With only 7% of  PDGA members female, getting the word out to more women about the great sport of disc golf has been a big topic of concern recently and The Chick Flick was an excellent way to do just that.  Another important aspect of this event was just getting outdoors and having fun in the sunshine, with some amazing weather in the Pacific Northwest over the weekend of August 4-5.

Hanley came out in first place in the Women’s Open division with an impressive final score of 8-under par while Jessica Weese of Grass Valley, California followed in second scoring 2-under par and Jessie Westphal of Shoreline, Washington placed third with a final score of 1-under par.

In the Masters division, it was Tournament Director Cindy McMahan of Portland who was crowned champion, scoring 4-over par, while Britney Quesenberry took the prize in the Advanced division with a final score of 5-over par. Nichola Landry from beautiful Rockaway Beach, Oregon scored 18-over par to win the Advanced Masters division while Donna Caldwell, coming all the way from San Lorenzo, California, won the Advanced Senior Grandmasters division.

In the Intermediate division, four women all scored 15-over par to tie for first place, but it was Alexa Servid who won in overtime, while Mindy Carbajal placed second, Meredith Berry came in at third place, and Kailey Carlson followed at fourth.

Finally, the Recreational division victory went to Jennifer Cartwright, while Kendall Conroy won the 19 and under division, Sai Ananda won in the 16 and under division and Joleigh Miller captured the win in the 13 and under division.

Congratulations to all of the winners and competitors on helping to get the word out to more women as well as on a great weekend of disc golf!
