Joe Thacker Wins DGB Tour 2012 – Spring Event #1 in Trussville, Alabama

The DGB Tour 2012 – Spring Event #1 was held at the Civitan Park John LeMaster Disc Golf Course, located about 15 miles northeast of Birmingham, Alabama in the small town of Trussville. 51 disc golfers came out to compete in this PDGA sanctioned C-tier event and were able to enjoy some beautiful early spring weather in the process.

Joe Thacker of Birmingham, Alabama emerged the winner of the men’s open division with a final score of 13-under par. Thacker had a third place finish in this past December’s DGB Christmas Classic 2011 and a second place finish at the DGB Summer C-tiers #3 in September.

Following Thacker in second place was Randy Fortenberry of Leeds, Alabama who finished with a final score of 9-under par.  Fortenberry had a victory in February’s Pay it Forward- Trussville and had a second place finish in the Charger Stampede II in Huntsville last month.

Capturing third place with a final score of 5-under par, was Aaron Bernard of Huntsville, Alabama, and at a tie for fourth place was Tim Keith and Marshall Christie, both coming in with a score of even par.

Chris Pierce of Pinon, Alabama was the winner of the advanced division after barely edging out second place finisher Phillip Moore of Hokes Bluff, Alabama in overtime. Robin Black of Hartselle, Alabama won for the women in the advanced division with a final score of 43-over par.

The intermediate division victory went to Chuck Kennedy of Inner Grove, Minnesota, scoring 3-under par while Anthony Sanders of Hoover, Alabama and Jody Mar of Alabaster, Alabama finished in a tie for second place, both coming in with a final score of even par.

Dustin Fry won the recreational division scoring 2-over par, while Blake Waldrup had a final score of 5-over par to finish in second place and Andrew Doelman captured third place scoring 7-over par. Finally, the novice division win went to Joe Fife with a final score of 14-over par with Jake Owen following in second place scoring 20-over par.
