Michael Johansen Crowned Champion at Disc Golf’s Oak Hollow Open

This past weekend, the Vibram Open was the talk of the nation when it comes to disc golf, but there were a number of other major events taking place over August 18th and 19th, including the Oak Hollow Open in High Point, North Carolina. Held at the Festival Park and Johnson Street Disc Golf Course, 130 disc golfers came out to compete in the PDGA sanctioned B-tier event, and it was Michael Johansen of Denver, North Carolina who came out with the victory in the Men’s Open division with a final score of 44-under par.

Johansen was impressive at the recent World Championships in Charlotte, ultimately finishing in fourth place, and has had a number of wins in 2012, including the Raleigh Disc Golf Championship, the Savannah Open and the Randolph Park Open. He was followed by Cam Todd of Wingate, North Carolina at second place with a score of 42-under par, and Chase Jernigan of Clayton, North Carolina captured third place scoring 41-under par.

Brad Ramsey of Charlotte and Hunter Todd, also of Charlotte, followed at fourth and fifth place respectively.

In the Women’s  Open division, it was five-time Women’s World Champion Elaine King of Durham, North Carolina who captured an impressive victory scoring 10-under par. She has also had several other wins this year, including the Charlotte Masters Championship.

Following King at second place was Holly Finley scoring 2o-over par. She’s come a long way in a short time in the world of disc golf; playing for just a little over a year, the international fashion model became a die hard disc golfer soon after she began to compete and is moving up the ranks quickly. In the Men’s Advanced division, it was Jon Mills of Winterville, North Carolina who won with a final score of 29-under par, while Jodi Waddell took the win for the women in the Advanced division.

Other winners included Paul Strickland, Eric Blum, Chaz McCue, Mikey Davis and Zarek Sobkowski.

Congratulations to all of the winners and competitors on a great weekend of disc golf!
