Raleigh Disc Golf Championship this Weekend in North Carolina

The Midtown Chiropractic Raleigh Disc Golf Championship will be held this weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina. This tournament is one of two PDGA sanctioned A-tier events taking place over July 28-29, 2012, with the other event being the Pittsburgh Flying Disc Open. While many top disc golf pros have headed up to the Pittsburgh area, there are also quite a few who stayed in North Carolina following the 2012 PDGA Disc Golf World Championships that ended in Charlotte on July 21. While those disc golfers will get a little respite from the extreme heat, in Raleigh temperatures continue to be in the 90s along with high humidity, but many players may have become more acclimated at this point.

Pool A player’s round one will kick off with a player’s meeting on Saturday, July 28 at 8:35 a.m. at the Cedar Hills Disc Golf Course, with tee-off at 9 a.m. The second round will be held at the Zebulon Community Disc Golf Course, teeing off an hour and a half after the last final card is turned in following round one.

For Pool B, they will begin with a player’s meeting at 8:35 a.m. on the Zebulon Community Disc Golf Course, with tee-off there at 9 a.m. and reversing in the afternoon.

Zebulon includes a good mix of rolling hills and open grassy areas as well as more tightly wooded areas, while Cedar Hills features “a tight, wooded and hilly course of championship caliber” that winds around a scenic and underdeveloped city park, according to the DGR site.

2011 Female PDGA Rookie of the Year, Catrina Allen, who placed third in the Pro Open division at the World’s, will be competing here this weekend along with four-time Women’s World Champion, Elaine King. Of course, Allen’s fiance, Paul Ulibarri, will also be here competing in the Men’s Open division along with Michael Johansen from Denver, North Carolina who had a fourth place finish at the World’s last week, Gregg Barsby out of Grass Valley, California and 2008 World Champion Dave Feldberg of Portland, Oregon, among many other well-known and exceptional players.
