The NorCal Series Championship was held in Penn Valley and Grass Valley over the weekend of October 20-21 in northern California. This PDGA sanctioned A-tier event had 190 disc golfers come out to compete, and it was Ray Johnson of Grass Valley who came out with the victory in the Men’s Open division with a final score of 9-under par.
Johnson has had a number of wins this year, including the Sierra Tahoe Series Opener and the Duel at Dayton. Jere Eshelman of Penn Valley followed in second place at just a throw behind scoring 8-under par, while Grass Valley’s Gregg Barsby came in at third place with a final score of 7-under par.
Jim Oates of Orangevale, California and Ryan Bertoncini finished in fourth and fifth place respectively.
Sarah Hokom, the 2012 PDGA Women’s World Champion, won the Women’s Open division with a final score of 20-over par. In addition to her World’s win, Hokom has had a number of other victories including the Steady Ed Memorial Masters Cup and the Northwoods Open. Jessica Weese of Grass Valley followed at second place scoring 24-over par while Kristine King of Santa Cruz, California placed third with a final score of 25-over par.
In the Masters division, Jason Tyra of Grass Valley captured the win scoring 5-under par while Patrick Brown of San Francisco followed in second place with a final score of 1-under par.
The Grandmasters division went to Geoff Fiedler of Berkeley, California while Charlie Callahan of Somerset, California was the winner of the Senior Grandmasters division.
Andrew Burbee of Lakeport, California won the Advanced division and it was Jaime Tjensvold of Grass Valley who took the win in the Women’s Advanced division. Mike Mallegni of Auburn, California won the Advanced Masters division and it was Suzie Weigand of Aptos, California won the division for the women.
Other winners included David Hevia, Dan Bertoncini, Ben Baker and Ben Slakey.
