Ricky Wysocki Captures the Win at Disc Golf’s Fort Steilacoom Open

The Fort Steilacoom Open took place this past weekend, June 23 and 24, at the Fort Steilacoom Disc Golf Park Disc Golf Course in Steilacoom, Washington. This PDGA sanctioned A-tier event came down to an exciting finish. While Kyle Crabtree of Fife, Washington had the lead throughout most of the tournament, the 2011 PDGA Rookie of the Year, Ricky Wysocki from Fort Mill, South Carolina, came back in the Final 9 in a big way.  Wysocki earned a difficult win as he birdied eight of the nine final holes to win by one with a final score of 27-under par to Crabtree’s 26-under par.

John Anderson of Puyallup, Washington and Portland, Oregon’s Tim Skellenger followed Crabtree in a tie at third place, both scoring 23-under par. Scoring 21-under par to capture fifth place was Jeremy Koling of Charlotte, North Carolina.

In the women’s open division, it was Liz Lopez of San Antonio, Texas who was crowned champion with a final score of 7-over par, while Sarah Hokom of Caldwell, Idaho followed at second place scoring 12-over par and Jessie Westphal of Shoreline, Washington captured third place with a final score of 14-over par.

The masters division victory went to Marty Cook of Walla Walla, Washington scoring 12-under par, with Mike Werth following at second place with a final score of 7-under par. Greg Roberts of Anchorage, Alaska won the grandmasters division scoring 5-over par while Jason Carr of Puyallup, Washington won a tight race in the advanced division with a final score of 6-under par, just one stroke ahead of second place finisher, Chase Killen of Ketchum, Idaho.

Jamie Adams won the women’s advanced division with a final score of 39-over par and it was Cindy McMahan of Portland, Oregon who came in at second place scoring 40-over par.

Todd Bates of Tacoma, Washington and Paul Wright of Bremerton, Washington finished in a tie for first place in the advanced masters division, both scoring 7-over par, while Matt Geck of Puyallup, Washington dominated the advanced grandmasters division to win with a final score of 13-over par.

Finally, Brian Jacobs of Silverdale, Washington and Chloe Salkield of Bellingham, Washington won the recreational divisions.
