Scotty Burtard Crowned Champion at Disc Golf’s Zobel Open

The Zobel Open was held in Green Lake, Wisconsin at the Zobel Park Disc Golf Course on Saturday, July 7. With 90 disc golfers coming out to compete in this PDGA sanctioned B-tier event, it was Scotty “Too Hotty” Burtard of Sheboygan, Wisconsin who emerged the winner in the men’s open division, dominating with a final score of 5-under and shooting the hot round of the day with a 48 in the second round.

Burtard has won a number of events this year, including the Snow Blown Open and the Prairie Open. He was followed at second place by Patrick Blake of Milwaukee, Wisconsin scoring 1-over par, while Keith Warren of Stevens Point, Wisconsin captured third place at just a stroke behind with a final score of 2-over par.  Warren has had quite a few victories this year, including the Visit Menomonie Open and the Tower Ridge Open.

Coming in at a tie for fourth place, was Sean Butler of Spring Grove, Illinois and Chris Heeren of Janesville, Wisconsin, both scoring 3-over par. In the women’s open division, it was Lauren Braaksma of Sheboygan who took the win with a final score of 35-over par.

The grandmasters division saw a very tight race with Don Van Ryzin of Appleton, Wisconsin, Rob Mertins of Neenah, Wisconsin and Brad Wendt of Madison, Wisconsin battling it out in overtime after they all finished with a final score of 13-over par. It was Van Ryzin who came out with the win in the end.

Scoring 2-over par to win the advanced division was Andrew Schultz of Sheboygan, while Kris Frederichsen, also of Sheboygan, won the advanced masters division scoring 13-over par and Randy Jacobson of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin won the advanced grandmasters division with a final score of 13-over par.

The intermediate division victory went to Nick Derr of Osh Kosh, Wisconsin scoring 10-over par and it was Jennifer Thatcher of Randolph, Wisconsin who won the division for the women scoring 48-over par. Finally, Justin Gloede of Osh Kosh won the recreational division with a final score of 18-over par.
