This Weekend in Michigan: Disc Girls Gone Wild Presented by MC Sports

Many of the world’s best female disc golfers will be competing in the Disc Girls Gone Wild Presented by MC Sports this weekend, June 9-10, in Laingsburg, Michigan. This PDGA sanctioned A and B-tier event will be held over two days at the Sleepy Hollow State Park Disc Golf Course. There will also be an opportunity to participate in a Breast Cancer fundraiser raffle, which will be held all weekend.

Registration and check-in for this tournament will be held on Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., followed by a player’s meeting at 9:45 a.m. and tee-off at 10 a.m. Round two has a tentative tee-time of 2 p.m., while Sunday’s round three will kick off at 9 a.m.

If you still haven’t found out what this great sport is a lot about, this would be an excellent event to come out to and watch these exceptional women showcase their awesome skills.

A few of the pros who will be competing in the open division, include 2011 Women’s World Champion, Paige Pierce, coming all the way from Plano, Texas. Last month Pierce was the winner of the  Central Texas Hyzer Honey’s Women’s Global Event and she also had an impressive second place finish at the Glass Blown Open in Kansas.

The 2011 PDGA Female Rookie of the Year, Catrina Allen of Phoenix, Arizona, will compete alongside Pierce. Allen was the winner of the very tough Glass Blown Open and she also captured a victory at the recent SOKY Championships. Three-time Women’s World Champion Valarie Jenkins of Capitola will be in the competition this weekend as well. As usual, Jenkins has proved to be the female to beat with a number of wins already this year, including last weekend’s prestigious Kansas City Wide Open.

Some of the local region’s disc golfers who will be here include Jayne Snider of Lansing, Michigan who had a recent third place finish at the Prairie Open and Erin Oakley, also from Lansing, who had victories at both the Lumberjack Open and the March Mush.

Good luck to all these outstanding women as they help out a great cause and spread the word of one of the fastest growing sports on the planet, disc golf!
