Tyler Horne Crowned Champion at Delaware Disc Golf Challenge

The Delaware Disc Golf Challenge was held over this recent weekend of June 30-July 1, 2012 at the very tough Iron Hill Disc Golf Course in Newark, Delaware and Marshallton’s beautiful Carousel Park course. With 99 disc golfers coming out to compete in this PDGA sanctioned A-tier event, it was Tyler Horne of Columbus, Ohio who came through in the end to capture the victory in the men’s open division with a final score of 27-under par.

Horne was the winner of last weekend’s Gordon Holton Accolade, and he’s had a number of other wins this year including the Lexington Open and the Riverside Drive. Following at second place, was this year’s Patapsco Punisher champion, Mike Moser of Wilmington, Delaware, scoring 25-under par. Defending champion Steve Brinster of Warwick, New York captured third place with a final score of 20-under par.

Scoring 18-under par to finish in fourth place was Devin Fredrick of Hellertown, Pennsylvania, and Nate Krahn of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania took fifth place with a final score of 16-under par.

In the women’s open division, it was Sarah Hokom of Caldwell, Idaho who was crowned champion with a final score of 21-over par. Hokom has had several victories this year including the Lilac City Open and the prestigious “Steady” Ed Memorial Masters Cup. Melynda Apton of Pennfield, New York followed at second place scoring 41-over par, while Becky Sonnheim of Haddonfield, New Jersey captured third place and Amy Moser of Wilmington, Delaware came in at fourth place.

The grandmasters division win went to Jimi McIlvain of Newark, Delaware with a final score of 2-over par and Vince Sutlic, also of Newark, won the advanced division scoring 1-over par, while Wendy Balko of Timonium, Maryland was the winner for the women’s advanced division.

Adam Harris of Haddonfield, New Jersey was the advanced masters division winner with a final score of 25-over par, and it was Matthew Kashima of Owings Mills, Maryland who won the intermediate division scoring 17-over par.
