Wally Moore Crowned Champion at Disc Golf’s Pro/Am Fling XVI

The Pro/Am Fling XVI was held at the Chavez Ridge Disc Golf Course located inside Elysian Park near Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday, May 26. This PDGA sanctioned C-tier event also served as a fundraiser to help DISC improve disc golf in the southern California area.

With 79 disc golfers coming out to compete it was Wally Moore of Goleta, Calif. who was crowned champion in the men’s open division with a final score of 7-under par. Moore had a second place finish recently at the Sylmar Open and was the winner of the Tim Selinske Safari Open in 2011.

Rocky Brown of Bakersfield, Calif. followed Moore at second place scoring 4-under par and Chris Horn of San Bernardino, Calif. and Jason Johnson of Leeds, Mass. followed Brown in a tie for third place, both finishing with a final score of 3-under par.

Local Justin Scoggins captured fifth place scoring 4-over par and Ryan Brekke of Thousand Oaks, Calif. took sixth place with a final score of 6-over par.

The masters division victory went to Chris Brophy of Huntington Beach, Calif. scoring 12-under par.  Brophy was the winner of the Ice Bowl in Paradise competing in the same division early this year. Richard Hoffa of Rosamond, Calif. followed in second place with a final score of 8-under par.

Todd Banks of Tujunga, Calif. won the grandmasters division scoring 9-under par. Banks was the winner of both the Sylmar Open and the Ice Bowl in Paradise competing in the same division this year. Tournament director Steve Valencia of Los Angeles won the advanced division with a final score of 10-under par while Adazm Nash of San Diego followed in second place scoring 8-under par.

Paul Morgavo won the advanced masters division with a final score of 4-under par while Dale Ventress won the advanced grandmasters division scoring 5-over par. The intermediate division win went to Michael Hopper who scored 3-under par, and it was Kim Fisher from Winston-Salem, N.C. who won the intermediate division for the women scoring 33-over par.

Finally, Ohn Scoggins of Los Angeles won the recreational division with a final score of 11-over par while Mike Ventress won the novice division scoring 22-over par.
